What medications are used for intestinal colitis?

Almost 50% of modern residents suffer from some form of non-ulcerative colitis. Due to the rapid change in the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, bacteria multiply in it, which provokes the appearance of bacterial foci, severe pain and dilation of intestinal muscle tissue. Additionally, the disease may be accompanied by symptoms of hemorrhoids, severe varicose veins and problems with bowel movements. To relieve the patient from complications and alleviate his condition, strictly combined treatment is carried out.

Attention! However, taking antibiotics can only be indicated in exceptional cases, since this class of drugs can significantly worsen the patient’s condition within a few doses.

Treatment of colitis with medications

Antimicrobial agents for colitis

Treatment of intestinal colitis with medications begins with the prescription of antimicrobial drugs. Doctors have an extensive list of remedies for colitis at their disposal:

  • sulfonamides;
  • nitrofurans;
  • quinolones;
  • antibiotics.

Treatment of colitis with medications aims to eliminate the cause of inflammation (pathogenic and opportunistic microbes). Each type of microbe is sensitive to a specific drug. Therefore, to select the most effective remedy, an analysis of the sensitivity of the bacterial flora to medications is carried out.

Sulfonamides

Therapy with Fthalazol, Ftazin, Sulgin is carried out for ulcerative colitis, dysentery, and E. coli contamination. The tablets are slowly absorbed from the intestines when taken orally, creating a high concentration of antimicrobial agent. Sulfonamides are contraindicated for pregnant women, nursing mothers, children under 3 years of age, and people with kidney problems.

Nitrofurans

The antibacterial activity of nitrofurans extends to Giardia, Shigella, Clostridia, Salmonella, and Vibrio cholerae. Enterofuril capsules will help with antibiotic-associated colitis. They suppress the development of clostridia, the causative agents of pseudomembranous colitis. Enterofuril is approved for children from 1 month in the form of a suspension. 200 mg capsules are prescribed to adults 4 times a day for a week. Pregnant and lactating women are recommended to use according to compelling indications.

Quinolones

Quinolones are a relatively new group of antimicrobial agents. Microorganisms have not yet developed resistance to quinolones. Drug treatment of colitis with this group of drugs eliminates salmonella, shigella, cholera, and staphylococci. Nolicin, Sophasin, Medociprin are used in the treatment of chronic colitis.

Antibiotics

Antibiotics for colitis are needed with a broad spectrum of action. A new generation of drugs is polymyxins. Polymyxin B is taken to eliminate Salmonella, Shigella, Klebsiella, and cholera. Treatment of colitis in adults with Polymyxin B occurs in a hospital setting.

For home antibiotic therapy, the doctor prescribes:

  1. Levomycetin - helps get rid of acute and chronic inflammation caused by E. coli, salmonella, streptococci, staphylococci. The medicine is taken half an hour before meals 3 times a day. The course of treatment is 8 days. Children under 2 years of age, expectant and nursing mothers are not prescribed.
  2. Neomycin is a drug from the group of aminoglycosides. When taken orally, it is poorly absorbed, affecting mainly the microflora in the intestines. Neomycin is used by prescription due to the large number of side effects.
  3. Alpha-Normix - the medicine eliminates the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria, since almost everything remains in the small and large intestine. It is possible to treat intestinal colitis in women during pregnancy and lactation. Adults and children over 12 years of age are advised to take 1 tablet every 8 hours. An antibiotic is used for a week.

Treatment of colitis with medications, especially antibiotics, occurs under the supervision of a gastroenterologist. The dosage of drugs, the duration of treatment for colitis, and the selection of effective medications are carried out strictly individually. Unsystematic use of antibiotics threatens to complicate the inflammatory process with antibiotic-associated colitis (AAC).

Relieving pain and spasms

If antibiotics affect the cause of the disease, then antispasmodics eliminate painful spasms of the inflamed intestine. The action of the drugs is aimed at relaxing the smooth muscles of the intestines.

No-Shpa is the most famous antispasmodic based on drotaverine. No-Shpy tablets are used after meals for attacks of spastic pain in the abdomen, 1-2 tablets up to 3 times a day. Treatment lasts a maximum of 2-3 days. If the pain does not subside, consult a doctor.

Duspatalin - affects the intestinal muscles directly, affecting the large intestine to a greater extent. Peristalsis is not affected, the intestines work normally. Does not pass into breast milk and has no toxic effect on the fetus. Take morning and evening 20 minutes before meals with water. Duspatalin affects the ability to drive a car and other activities with increased concentration.

Buscopan - used for abdominal pain of various origins. Available in tablets and rectal suppositories. It is poorly absorbed from the intestines, having a predominant effect on the digestive organs. 1 tablet or suppository three times a day relieves pain and spasms in the intestines. Cannot be used for more than 2 days in a row.

Normalization of stool

Colitis manifests itself as both constipation and diarrhea. Both symptoms are unpleasant and require specific therapy.

What to do if you have diarrhea

Indigestion in the form of diarrhea occurs from inflammation of the cecum and ascending colon. For ulcerative colitis, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and pseudomembranous colitis, taking medications based on loperamide is prohibited.

To stop diarrhea due to inflammation of the mucous membrane of the large and small intestines:

  • Tansal will have an astringent and anti-inflammatory effect for colitis. Contains salicylate and tanalbin. Take a tablet 3 times a day;
  • Allylsate is an alcoholic extract from garlic. Suppresses putrefactive phenomena in the intestines, normalizes stool. 10-15 drops of Allylsate are added to 30 ml of milk and drunk three times a day before meals;
  • Smecta will stop diarrhea and absorb microbial toxins. Approved for use in infants, pregnant women and lactating women. Dissolve a packet of powder in a glass of water and drink 3-4 times a day;
  • Bevisal – contains salicylate, bismuth salt and belladonna extract. It has a complex antimicrobial, relaxing, anti-inflammatory and astringent effect. Take one tablet three times a day.

A dangerous complication of diarrhea is dehydration. The patient needs plenty of warm drink - weak tea, rosehip decoction, compote, clean water. Salt rehydrants - Regidron, Humana, Oralit - replenish moisture loss well. A packet of powder is dissolved in a liter of water and drunk in 3-4 doses.

What to do if you are constipated

Left-sided chronic colitis is manifested by periodic constipation. Pharmacological agents will come to the rescue:

  • rectal suppositories Bisacodyl, Dulcolax, as well as suppositories with rhubarb, sea buckthorn, glycerin;
  • Guttalax, Regulax, Slabicap drops;
  • laxative Forlax or Fortrans;
  • syrups with lactulose;

Laxatives cannot be used constantly, constipation will only worsen, and emptying without medication will become impossible.

Eubiotic class drugs

Intestopan

The drug Intestopan relieves severe bloating, relieves diarrhea and constipation

Quickly normalizes the patient's condition, relieving severe bloating, allowing you to get rid of diarrhea and constipation. In the acute stage of colitis, which is not chronic, the patient is prescribed one or two pills up to six doses; it is better to drink the remedy immediately after meals. If colitis is acute, you should not take Intestopan more than two tablets three times a day. The maximum course of therapy lasts 10 days. Exceeding the permissible number of days of treatment is strictly prohibited, so as not to worsen the patient’s condition.

Mexaza

Mexase is taken with meals

It comes in the form of a pill, which is prohibited from chewing or crushing. Mexase is taken during or after meals, and should be washed down with a small amount of clean water. The daily dosage is three tablets, divided into three doses. It is advisable to complete the course of therapy on the eighth day. Sometimes it is allowed to extend it up to four weeks, but the doctor is obliged to constantly monitor the condition of the visual apparatus. If clear signs of deterioration appear, Mexase is immediately discontinued and possible symptomatic treatment is carried out.

Attention! If the ten-day course of therapy is exceeded, the patient's health condition may deteriorate significantly, which will manifest itself as nausea, vomiting and general weakness. Damage to the optic nerve and central nervous system is especially dangerous. With prolonged use, the patient's vision may drop to virtually zero.

Healing the intestinal mucosa

With colitis, especially in the chronic stage, the intestinal mucosa suffers. To heal it, suppositories with sea buckthorn and propolis are used. The herbal preparation Regesol contains extracts of more than 50 medicinal herbs. Under its influence, wounds heal, regeneration accelerates, and capillary bleeding stops. Take a Regesol tablet twice a day for a month.

The Evalar company offers a general strengthening remedy “Green Oats” to restore the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, relieve inflammation and regenerate intestinal tissue. It is necessary to include one Green Oats powder in the daily diet of patients with colitis. A sachet of the product is mixed with warm soup or porridge.

What are the causes of colitis?

Acute colitis is a consequence of penetration of an infectious agent into the intestinal lumen. The characteristics of the pathogen will determine the rate and manifestations of the disease. In the chronic course of the disease, the causes of its development and exacerbations can be considered:

  • Infectious agents. If acute colitis is not treated correctly or is re-infected, colitis caused by various pathogens may occur. Bacteria (salmonella, staphylococcus), fungi, viruses and helminths often lead to the disease becoming chronic.
  • Ischemia. Insufficient blood supply to the intestines leads to the development of inflammation and a decrease in its functionality.
  • Toxic substances. When the digestive tube is exposed to poisons, inflammation occurs. Compounds of mercury, lead, arsenic and phosphorus lead to irritation of the mucous membrane upon contact and the development of colitis. When endotoxins, which are produced by the body and are eliminated by the large intestine, are produced, inflammation also occurs. Diseases such as gout, glomerulonephritis with chronic renal failure, etc. can lead to it.

Restoration of microflora

An important point in the question of how to treat intestinal colitis is the state of the microbial community of the colon. To restore beneficial intestinal microflora, probiotics and prebiotics are of great importance. Probiotics are preparations with live cultures of bacteria necessary for digestion.

Pharmacy chains include:

  • Eubicor;
  • Enterol;
  • Acipol;
  • Baktisubtil;
  • Florin Forte;
  • Linux;
  • Hilak Forte;
  • Bififiform;
  • Bifidumbacterin;
  • Probifor.

Beneficial bacteria from probiotics penetrate the intestines, colonize it, displacing pathogenic microbes. Thus, natural eubiosis and normal digestion are restored.

Diet for colitis

No medication will cure colitis if you neglect nutritional advice. The diet for colitis consists of pureed vegetarian soups, boiled porridges in water, steamed omelettes, boiled lean meat and fish without skin. Food is prepared in the most gentle way possible - boiling, baking, stewing in water. They eat warm food up to 6 times a day, excluding overeating and limiting hot and cold foods. Fatty, fried, spicy, smoked, and salty foods are removed from the diet. Avoid gas-forming foods - cabbage, radishes, grapes, black bread, sweets. You need to drink clean water, weak tea, mineral water without carbon. It is necessary to completely reject alcohol, smoking and other bad habits.

Medicines for the treatment of intestinal colitis include antimicrobial, anthelmintic, and symptomatic agents. During the treatment, the intestinal microflora is restored and the mucous membrane is regenerated. In parallel with drug treatment, diet therapy is carried out to increase the effectiveness of pharmacological drugs. A well-designed treatment plan will allow you to get rid of colitis or transfer the disease to a stage of long-term remission.

Medicines for colitis should be taken only after consulting a doctor. The treatment regimen is selected individually. Self-prescription of medications is excluded in order to avoid complications of the disease that are dangerous to the health and life of the patient.

Medicines

Before starting treatment for an unpleasant and sometimes dangerous disease, it is necessary to find out exactly the cause of its occurrence.

For different types of colitis, united by similar symptoms, treatment can be completely different and in some cases, what helps with one type will only be harmful for another type. Often, colitis is only a symptom of serious gastrointestinal problems, which in some cases require surgical intervention.

However, some medications are used for colitis of any etiology. First of all, these are antispasmodics, such as No-shpa. Having a relaxing effect on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, such drugs quickly and effectively relieve pain and frequent urge to defecate, allowing the patient to return to their normal activities. In some cases, for example, with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), this medicine will be sufficient, since this disease is not accompanied by serious damage to the intestinal mucosa.

For allergic and toxic

For allergic and toxic colitis, it is important to cleanse the body of substances that cause a painful reaction.
To do this, you need to take activated carbon or Lactofiltrum - any adsorbents, and then use any laxative to remove associated toxins from the body. Also, for allergic colitis, it is necessary to take antihistamines. A laxative (mostly an oil laxative) is sometimes prescribed for other types of colitis. The fact is that the inflamed intestines produce large amounts of acidic mucus that irritates the walls of the gastrointestinal tract, which increases pain and aggravates ulcerations, and when colitis is combined with constipation, its regular removal should be ensured.

To weaken the effects of acidic mucus, enveloping agents are also used: flaxseed decoction, mucous porridges as food, acidity-reducing drugs such as calcium carbonate.

For diarrhea

For severe diarrhea that threatens dehydration, on the contrary, antidiarrheal drugs are used, such as Loperamide and Regidron or other similar drugs that restore a healthy water-salt balance.

When infected with bacteria

In the event that the cause of acute colitis is pathogenic microorganisms, such as shigella, salmonella, pathogenic strains of E. coli, taking antibiotics will be a mandatory measure, and the choice of a specific antibiotic will be dictated by the pathogen that caused the disease.

Self-medication with antibiotics is unacceptable, and after taking them, a course of drugs with live beneficial bacteria (Colibacterin, Bifidumbacterin) is required. Also, these drugs can be used as a direct medicine in the treatment of colitis caused by dysbacteriosis.

For autoimmune lesions

For autoimmune lesions and severe inflammatory processes, hormonal drugs and adrenergic blockers are used, however, it is important to remember that these drugs cause severe complications in many patients, and therefore should be used only under the supervision of a doctor and within the walls of a hospital.

For prevention

When talking about medications, we should never forget about auxiliary medications that will support the body and help it cope with the disease faster. First of all, these are enzymes that improve food digestion, for example, Mezim and Panzinorm , and B vitamins,

For IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), sedatives are also prescribed, since this form of colitis is closely related to the psychological state of the patient. In some cases, they are also used in the adjuvant therapy of other colitis - the condition of the intestine as a whole is quite dependent on the nervous system. For the same reason, patients should be provided with not only physical, but also mental peace.

Briefly, we can summarize this: treatment of colitis with medications is a complex process that requires an individual approach in each specific case. Only a doctor can correctly select the medications needed specifically for a given patient, so even in the simplest at first glance situations, it is better to contact an experienced gastroenterologist and strictly follow his instructions in order not to become the “happy” owner of a chronic form of colitis in the future, prone to sudden exacerbations in the most unexpected situation and extremely difficult to cure.

Drugs for the treatment of colitis

Treatment of inflammation of the large intestine must be comprehensive, which is why specialists prescribe several medications.

Cholinergics

Treatment of intestinal colitis with cholinergic drugs is not uncommon, as many doctors have assessed the success of this therapy. But these drugs can only be used in a hospital setting under the supervision of medical personnel. The fact is that if not treated correctly, cholinergic drugs can negatively affect the functioning of the cardiovascular system and cause exacerbations of existing somatic diseases.

Adrenergic blockers

The situation with adrenergic blockers is exactly the same as with cholinergic drugs. They cannot be used by patients independently, without the participation of a doctor. Adrenergic blockers as drugs for the treatment of colitis dilate blood vessels throughout the body, including in the large intestine. Thanks to this, blood flow and general blood supply to the tissues of the affected organ are normalized, which has a positive effect on its condition.

To normalize intestinal microflora

Normal intestinal microflora dies en masse as a result of treatment of intestinal colitis with antibacterial drugs. Therefore, after the end of antibiotic therapy, treatment with biological products must be carried out, the purpose of which is to restore the microflora of the intestinal tract. Read more about how to restore the intestines after taking antibiotics →

In addition, bacterial agents (probiotics, prebiotics and bacteriophages) reduce the intensity of pain and reduce the frequency of painful attacks characteristic of inflammation of the large intestine. For intestinal colitis, medications to restore normal microflora are prescribed for a period of at least 2 weeks. It is better to start bacterial therapy with Colibacterin, and to consolidate the result obtained, treatment can be completed with Bifikol or Bifidumbacterin.

Antispasmodics

To weaken increased intestinal motility and eliminate frequently recurring spastic phenomena, the doctor must prescribe antispasmodic medications for intestinal colitis. This could be No-spa, Drotaverine hydrochloride and much more. By relieving the spasms, the patient gets rid of pain - an integral symptom of colitis.

Vaseline oil

Among laxatives for the treatment of intestinal colitis, the use of oil-based products is most preferable, and one of them is Vaseline oil. It carefully covers the walls of the large intestine with a thin layer, without having an irritating or traumatic effect on them, and also softens hard feces, promoting their movement in the intestines. Vaseline oil for colitis is recommended to use no more than 2 tbsp. l. per day.

Types of colitis

Effective treatment for intestinal colitis in adults depends on the form of the disease and the individual characteristics of the body. The conditional classification of the disease according to the characteristics of the pathological process is represented by the following types:

  • Spicy . Triggered by an allergic reaction, poor nutrition, bacterial infection. Under the influence of pathogenic factors, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the large and small intestines and stomach occurs.
  • Chronic . The disease is caused by long-term use of laxatives, disruption of intestinal microflora and pathogenic microorganisms. Inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract occurs with recurrent attacks of pain.

A classification according to endoscopic characteristics is provided. The types of colitis are:

  • Pseudomembranous . Long-term treatment with antibiotics disrupts the intestinal microflora and creates favorable conditions for the activity of harmful bacteria. Colitis manifests itself with pronounced symptoms of dysbacteriosis (diarrhea, flatulence, bloating).
  • Ulcerative . Provoking factors are considered to be stress, poor nutrition, infections, and genetic diseases. This form of the disease is accompanied by purulent inflammation of the large intestine and is severe.
  • Atrophic . The body becomes intoxicated with poisons, salts of heavy metals, toxins, and chemical reagents. With this disease, partial atrophy of the colon is observed, when the walls of the organ gradually become thinner.
  • Spastic . The main causes of the disease are bad habits, unhealthy diet, and unhealthy lifestyle. Patients with this form of colitis complain of irritable bowel syndrome (abdominal pain and cramps, diarrhea, flatulence).
  • Catarrhal . Pathogenic factors include food poisoning, intestinal diseases, vitamin deficiency, and weakened local immunity.

Useful video about colitis

The large intestine is the final section of the digestive tract, in which the formation of feces occurs, as well as the absorption of water, vitamins and nutrients from the bolus. The large intestine is formed by the cecum, which has a vermiform appendix in which lymphoid cells accumulate (appendix), as well as the colon and anal canal (rectum). The walls of the large intestine are covered with mucous membranes consisting of epithelial cells and lined with mucus, which is secreted by goblet cells. If the lining of the colon becomes inflamed, the patient is diagnosed with colitis.

Treatment of colitis requires complex measures. The basis of therapy is a therapeutic diet: the patient is prescribed table No. 4, which excludes any foods that can irritate the mucosal layer of the intestine and contribute to increased gas formation. The patient is also indicated for treatment with mineral and mineral table waters, physical therapy and medication correction. The drug therapy regimen is drawn up individually and depends on the severity of the main diagnosis, existing symptoms, degree of pain and associated complications, which may exclude the possibility of using certain medications.

How to treat intestinal colitis: medications

Important to remember

No medications will have an adequate effect on acute and chronic colitis if you do not follow the diet prescribed for these diseases.

In case of acute colitis and exacerbations of chronic colitis, the patient should eat boiled semi-liquid and pureed food without salt, sugar and spices, exclude all sour foods, from fruit juices to canned food, foods that irritate the stomach and intestines, such as tea, coffee and chocolate, and eat small frequent meals. in portions. Outside of exacerbations, it is recommended to limit fried and spicy foods.

If you follow a diet and properly selected drug treatment, the disease will leave you forever!

General scheme and principles of treatment

Treatment of acute and chronic intestinal colitis includes the use of medications aimed at eliminating pathological symptoms, as well as combating the cause of the inflammatory process. It is important that from the first day of treatment the patient follows a special diet, quits smoking, using drugs and alcoholic beverages, and reduces physical activity.

Treatment of chronic colitis

Often, problems with intestinal function are observed in people prone to frequent stress and suffering from emotional lability (frequent mood swings), so it is important to monitor the psychological state and, if necessary, take medications with a mild sedative effect: tincture of motherwort or valerian, infusion of hop cones, homeopathic medicines " Tenoten" and "Persen".

For all forms of colitis, patients are advised to take sorbents for a short period of time. These are drugs that selectively absorb gases, harmful vapors, toxins, allergens and bacterial waste products that can cause acute intoxication and poisoning of the body. Almost all enterosorbents have no contraindications for use (with the exception of chronic constipation and intestinal obstruction), so they can be used in patients of any age, including particularly vulnerable categories: children, pregnant and lactating women, patients with chronic and systemic diseases, people over 60 years of age .

Why are probiotics needed?

To restore the normal balance of intestinal microflora, prebiotics, probiotics, lactobacilli and bifidobacteria are used. When choosing a suitable drug, it is necessary to take into account the patient’s age: for children, medications in this group are prescribed in the form of syrups, suspensions, drops and chewable tablets. Chewable tablets “Normobakt Junior” in the shape of bears with white chocolate flavor have a good therapeutic effect. 1 package contains 20 tablets, which are enough for a course of treatment lasting 10 days (1 tablet 2 times a day).

Depending on the indications and severity of the inflammatory process, the following prebiotic drugs can also be prescribed for the treatment of colitis:

Note! It is necessary to take funds from this group for 7 to 30 days.

Symptoms of colitis

If a patient experiences paroxysmal abdominal pain or acute diarrhea, these are the first signs of colitis, the intensity of which will only increase in the absence of timely treatment. General symptoms include the following changes in general health:

  • feeling of rumbling in the stomach, indigestion, signs of bloating;
  • fever (increased body temperature), chills;
  • increased urge to defecate;
  • symptoms of dehydration, represented by dizziness, general weakness;
  • feces mixed with blood, most often caused by hemorrhoids worsened by diarrhea.

Not all symptoms may be present at the same time; their severity and intensity varies depending on the specific clinical picture. Effective treatment of intestinal colitis at home is possible only after a final diagnosis has been made, and this requires knowledge of the classification and distinctive features of each form of this disease.

"Enterol" or "Enterofuril"?

Both drugs are quite effective in the treatment of intestinal colitis and gastroenteritis, but correct diagnosis is necessary to achieve a positive result. "Enterofuril" is a local antimicrobial drug based on nifuroxazide. It is used when there is a suspicion of an infectious pathology. Nifuroxazide has a wide spectrum of antibacterial activity and helps to cope with diarrhea - one of the main symptoms of infectious colitis - if it is caused by salmonella, staphylococcus, klebsiella, streptococcus and other types of pathogenic microorganisms.

Enterol is a complex drug that has anthelmintic and antimicrobial activity, as well as normalizing the bacterial composition of the intestinal microflora. The drug is prescribed primarily for the elimination of functional diarrhea and the treatment of non-infectious gastroenteritis and colitis.

Treatment with honey and bee products

Propolis and honey are natural antibacterial agents effective against many pathogenic environments

Is it possible to use honey for inflammation? Many clinicians advise including the product in the diet in the absence of allergic reactions. Beekeeping products are effective in combating many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. For intestinal inflammation, it is recommended to add honey to other recipes, herbal teas, and douching solutions.

Important! Eating propolis is considered beneficial (chewing up to 50 g of the viscous substance per day is enough). The adhesive fibers contained in propolis envelop the intestinal walls and protect against the aggressive effects of various negative factors.

Before consuming honey, it must be heated to a temperature of 40 degrees and eaten in its pure form. Honey for intestinal colitis goes perfectly with butter and full-fat milk. Sea buckthorn oil for colitis with honey helps to cope with the formation of erosive foci in ulcerative colitis.

A recipe with the addition of butter and honey to boiled milk will soften the mucous membranes, relieve constipation, protect the intestinal lining, and help treat the stomach. There are other recipes:

  1. To prepare, you will need to combine 200 g of honey with 50 g of pollen and add 1 liter of cold water. The composition is thoroughly mixed and left for 3 days in a cool place. The finished composition should be taken 100 ml 3 times a day before meals. The course of treatment is 30 days.
  2. Treatment of colitis with propolis. Propolis alcohol tincture is diluted in water 1:10 and drunk before meals. The course of treatment is 15 days. Water-based propolis can be consumed internally in its pure form, for example, 1 tbsp. spoon of solution 30 minutes before meals.
  3. For ulcerative colitis, rectal suppositories made from honey will help. This is an effective way to treat colon inflammation. To prepare, melt 200 g of honey a little, add 1 egg and a little flour to make a stiff dough. Suppositories are formed from the resulting mass and injected into the rectal canal 2 times a day (morning and evening).

Douching with propolis tincture is effective. To prepare the solution, it is recommended to add 1 tbsp to 500 ml of warm water. a spoonful of propolis alcohol tincture.

Along with propolis, the use of golden mustache tincture is effective for ulcerative colitis (in a ratio of 1:20). During treatment, it is necessary to strictly follow the regimen and dosage, as your general well-being can significantly worsen. You should not take alcohol tinctures for gastritis or inflammation from a stomach ulcer.

There are other recipes based on plant ingredients and foods. At home, it is important to be comprehensive, namely: exercise, diet, and a long course of treatment with folk remedies. Only under these conditions can the necessary therapeutic results be achieved.

Quite often, many modern people encounter such an inflammatory process in the colon area as colitis.

The pathology is indeed very common and can affect the mucous walls of the organ.

Today, not only official methods of getting rid of the disease are popular, but also the treatment of colitis with folk remedies; it was decided to present the most effective recipes in this article.

There are several types and forms of pathologies, and therefore it is worth first diagnosing the disease correctly and only then proceeding with treatment.

Symptomatic treatment: drugs

One of the main tasks in the treatment of colitis of any etiology is to normalize stool and eliminate pain. For this purpose, antispasmodics can be used, for example, tablets based on drotaverine: “Drotaverine”, “No-shpa”, “Spazmol”, “Spazmonet”. In some cases, antispasmodics are prescribed in the form of rectal suppositories (“Papaverine”). They need to be used 2-3 times a day for 5-10 days.

For colitis accompanied by chronic constipation (lack of stool for more than 3 days and painful movement of feces through the intestines), the use of the laxatives listed below is indicated.

    "Portalak". A laxative drug in the form of a syrup based on lactulose, a synthetic isomer of milk sugar (lactose). The syrup should be taken on an empty stomach or immediately after a meal once a day. Dosage for adults – from 15 to 45 ml. Suitable for treating children under 1 year of age (dosage – 1 teaspoon).

Note! To restore damaged tissue when the rectum and sigmoid colon are affected, experts advise using Methyluracil. This is a tissue regeneration stimulator with an immunostimulating effect in the form of rectal suppositories and ointments for external use. The ointment must be used for applications using loose tampons 1-2 times a day for 30 days. Candles are used 1 to 4 times a day. The course of treatment can range from 1 week to 4 months.

We treat intestinal colitis

If the patient has diarrhea

For diarrhea, the drugs of choice in most cases are drugs based on loperamide, an opioid drug used to treat acute and chronic diarrhea in gastroenteritis and inflammatory processes in the large and small intestines. The most popular medicine in this group is Imodium. For acute colitis, the drug is used at an initial dose of 4 mg, followed by a reduction in dosage to 2 mg after each bowel movement. The tablet must be placed on the tongue and wait until it dissolves, then swallow the melted mass along with saliva. There is no need to take the drug.

Analogues of Imodium are:

  • “Loperamide” (tablets – 6-10 rubles);
  • “Diara” (chewable tablets – 83 rubles);
  • "Lopedium" (tablets - 32 rubles);
  • "Laremid" (capsules and tablets - 64 rubles).

Note! "Loperamide hydrochloride" is also a structural analogue of "Loperamide".

For bloating and flatulence

Increased gas formation, one of the typical symptoms of colitis and gastroenteritis, may also require medication correction. To eliminate unpleasant symptoms, medications based on simethicone, for example, Espumisan, are included in the treatment regimen. It has a carminative effect, destroys gas bubbles and makes their formation more difficult. Simethicone is not absorbed by the intestinal mucosa and is excreted unchanged from the body.

The following drugs have a similar effect: “Sub-Simplex”, “Antiflat Lannacher”, “Bobotik”.

Symptoms and classification

Doctors distinguish many types of colitis. The basis for classification is the reason for its appearance.

There are mainly 5 types of this pathology. Let's look at each of them separately:

  • Spastic. Spastic colitis is provoked by an incorrect lifestyle. We are talking about bad habits, abuse of fatty foods, a sedentary lifestyle, ignoring hygiene rules, and so on. All this causes the onset of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Pseudomembranous. A factor provoking the appearance of pseudomembranous colitis is drug abuse. Some medications have a destructive effect on the intestinal mucosa, helping to create a favorable environment for the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms.
  • Atrophic. Occurs due to poisonous and toxic intoxication of the body. Atrophic colitis is characterized by necrosis of the tissue surface of the digestive organs.
  • Catarrhal. The trigger for the development of this type of pathology is food poisoning. Eating stale products can cause inflammation of the large intestine.
  • Ulcerative. Ulcerative colitis of the intestine occurs due to many reasons, including stress, genetic predisposition, contact with chemical reagents, and so on.

This is not the only classification of the disease. It is also divided according to the form of its flow. There are two of them: acute and chronic.

Acute intestinal colitis, in most cases, occurs as a symptom of an allergy. A negative reaction of the body to an allergen appears as a result of contact with it.

For example, a person suffering from lactose intolerance will certainly experience colitis if he eats or drinks a dairy product.

The symptoms of the acute form of this disease are clearly expressed. A patient who is faced with this problem will completely lose his ability to work due to poor health.

As for chronic colitis, its symptoms are not so obvious. However, regardless of the form of the disease, the patient who has been diagnosed with it will constantly experience gastric discomfort.

The manifestation of this symptom is unbearable for many patients. Pain with intestinal colitis is spastic or aching in nature.

It is clearly felt. Hence the need to take painkillers. However, stomach discomfort is not the only symptom of colitis.

Other signs of the disease:

  1. Refusal to eat, sudden loss of body weight.
  2. Constant rumbling in the stomach.
  3. Feeling of bitterness in the mouth.
  4. Difficulty defecating (the patient may refuse to eat because he knows that defecation will be painful).
  5. Dizziness and weakness.

As for stomach discomfort, it intensifies after eating.

How to treat colitis? Let's figure it out.

The cause of inflammation is helminthiasis

If the cause of the inflammatory process in the colon is helminthic infestation, the patient will need a course of treatment with antiparasitic drugs (Vermox, Levamisole, Dekaris). Some of them can be used even during pregnancy, but strictly if indicated and after consultation with a specialist. Any means to combat helminths are highly toxic and can cause serious damage to the liver and heart muscle, so independent use of these medications is unacceptable.

After treatment, it is necessary to be tested for worm eggs and a scraping for enterobiasis. If the result is negative, there is no need to continue therapy.

If you have ulcerative colitis, diet alone is not enough

Cases where colitis is caused by disturbances in the functioning of the heart and blood vessels are considered atypical. For ischemic colitis, therapy is supplemented with drugs that normalize blood flow and prevent thrombosis. At the same time, the patient is prescribed antispasmodics to relax the smooth muscles of the vascular walls. If indicated, after stopping the acute inflammatory process, the doctor can select a course of vitamin and immunomodulatory therapy . Immunostimulants should be prescribed with extreme caution, especially in individuals with signs of autoimmune disorders and pathologies.

Eliminating the cause of the pathology

One of the goals of diagnosis is to determine the etiological factor of colitis. This is necessary to select the most effective therapy.

  • When a spastic type of intestinal colitis is detected, adjustment of the diet may be sufficient for therapy.
  • If the etiology of inflammation is parasitic in nature, then the patient should take drugs to destroy helminthic infestations and parasites (Azinox, Dekaris, Albendazole or Vormil).
  • If the causes of the pathology are associated with other gastrointestinal problems, then a thorough examination is carried out to identify the exact provoking factor.

Regardless of the origin of the intestinal inflammation, the patient is shown a mandatory diet so that the already damaged intestines have a rest from processing and digesting heavy food.
